How care is arranged
Cosmetic surgery is regulated in Australia for a reason. The steps below are how this practice works. They are not optional extras.
01
Referral
For cosmetic surgery, a referral from a general practitioner is required. Reconstructive, skin cancer and hand surgery usually also begin with a GP or specialist referral. Bring any relevant letters, scans and a list of medicines.
02
First consultation
This is an assessment, not a booking. History, examination and photographs (with consent) are used to discuss whether any procedure is appropriate, including the option of no treatment. Psychological suitability is considered for cosmetic surgery.
03
Second consultation and cooling-off
Cosmetic surgery requires a second consultation. A cooling-off period of at least seven days follows that second consultation before surgery can proceed. You are encouraged to ask questions, seek a second opinion, and not to decide under time pressure.
04
Written quote and consent
An itemised quote covering the surgeon’s fee, anaesthetist, hospital or day-surgery, implants or devices if used, garments and scheduled follow-up is provided. Material risks are explained. Consent is informed consent, not a formality.
05
The operation
Procedures are performed at Adelaide Day Surgery or Stirling Hospital. Fasting, medicines, smoking cessation and skin preparation are confirmed in writing before the day.
06
Aftercare
Follow-up is part of the surgical fee structure discussed with you. Problems, bleeding, fever, sudden swelling, calf pain, chest pain or visual change, require urgent contact with the rooms or an emergency department, not an email.
Telehealth
Dr Moore offers video consultations for people who live interstate, overseas, or in rural and remote South Australia, when a video assessment is clinically appropriate. A physical examination is still required before cosmetic surgery. Telehealth does not shorten cooling-off periods.
People under 18
Cosmetic surgery is not advertised to children. Additional safeguards apply to anyone under 18, including independent assessment. Reconstructive, congenital, trauma and skin-cancer care for younger patients is a different pathway and is arranged through appropriate referral.
Smoking and health
Smoking, vaping and nicotine replacement all affect wound healing and skin blood supply. Many operations will not be offered unless nicotine has been stopped for a period advised at consultation. BMI, diabetes, clotting history and mental health are also part of whether surgery should proceed.
Photographs
Clinical photographs are part of the medical record, taken with consent, and are not used for advertising. This website does not publish before-and-after images or patient testimonials.
