UltraClear laser resurfacing
UltraClear is a cold ablative fibre laser for skin resurfacing, and our Adelaide clinic is home to the first UltraClear in South Australia. Every treatment is tailored to you, after your skin type has been assessed.
What it is
UltraClear uses a 2910 nm wavelength that is strongly absorbed by the water in your skin. It works fractionally, treating thousands of tiny columns of skin while leaving the surrounding skin untouched, which helps the skin heal from the edges of each treated point. Because the energy is used to gently vaporise tissue rather than spread heat through the skin, it is known as a "cold" laser. When it suits your treatment, a controlled amount of gentle heat can also be added to support collagen renewal. The depth, density and balance of each treatment are tailored to your skin and goals, so there is no single setting used for everyone. Recovery time varies with how the treatment is set, and your clinician will talk you through what to expect.
What it may be used for
Clients often come to us about fine lines and wrinkles on the face, neck and chest, sun damage, brown spots, uneven skin tone, rough texture and enlarged pores. UltraClear may also be used for acne scarring, some surgical or injury scars, and skin laxity on the face, neck, arms, hands or abdomen. A laser is not the right answer for every concern, so your skin is assessed first. This includes a careful assessment for deeper skin tones, before any treatment is recommended.
How treatment is planned
There are four levels. The times below are a guide, and your own plan may be different.
Superficial
This takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Most people need little or no time away from their usual activities, and numbing cream is not usually used. A course may be three to six visits.
Resurfacing
This takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Recovery is often two to four days, numbing cream may be used, and two to four sessions are common.
Deeper resurfacing
This takes about 20 to 30 minutes. You may prefer to stay out of public view for five to seven days. Numbing cream is used, and one to three sessions are typical.
Laser coring
This is the deepest setting, used when the concern is looseness or a deeper scar. It takes about 30 minutes, recovery is often one to two weeks, and it is usually one or two sessions. Dr Moore oversees this setting directly.
What to expect
A full face usually takes between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the level. Afterwards the skin is often pink or red, and a little swollen. The swelling usually settles over a day or two. Some browning and light shedding can follow, and you go home with written instructions for looking after the skin.
You are usually seen again between four and eight weeks. The skin can keep changing for as long as six months, so the result is not something you see on the day, and it is not the same for every person. Skin continues to age, and some people later return for a lighter treatment.
Risks
You should expect some redness and swelling, and the skin may brown for a short time. Pigment can also change. Because skin is removed, infection and scarring are possible, though they are uncommon. Protecting the skin from the sun, both before treatment and while it heals, is part of the care.
Call to book
Dr Moore assesses your skin, history and goals, and sets the depth of treatment. You may be asked to use a skin routine for two to four weeks beforehand. Call to book, or send an enquiry.
